Cellular & PCS

Cellular Services Evolution: Cellular and PCS Band services refer to the almost ubiquitous public-use cell phone and cell data services. These services have evolved considerably in the almost 30 years since the cellular bands and wireless services were first established; no longer do we have ‘bag’ phones and huge mobile units mounted in the trunk of your car! From no more than 2 WSP’s (Wireless Service Providers) in each area in 1985, to 6 or more in some urban areas today, the numbers of WSP’s have continued to expand.

With the proliferation of the numbers of WSP’s and bands of service , the variety of cell communications needs of anyone entering or working your building or campus has changed the complexity of modern Distributed Antenna System’s and their implementation; the need to professionally design and install any DAS has never been greater. The DAS solutions technologies and product offerings have also continued expanding; it is no longer a matter of a few antennas and a bit of coax. The systems and the manner in which they must be planned and engineered have consequently become more specialized.

Band Planning: Part of DAS engineering and planning is band planning. In the US, there can be up to 7 bands for this type of service in a given area. For DAS’s that are intended for use by multiple Wireless Service Providers, the systems have to be engineered and planned for all of the frequency bands that are in use, or are likley to be in use,  by the WSP’s in that particular area.

Technology: Another key aspect of DAS engineering is technologies. The actual radio link technology used  changed considerably with the introduction of 3G technologies, and have changed again with the more recent 4G technolgies. These have initiated changes in customer usage patterns, and enabled much more data use, particularly internet use over cellular. And the very radio link technolgies are changing, with some 4G systems needing dual antennas per radiating point. These technologies demand special design techniques to manage critical parameters in each design, including proper link balance, limiting cumulative uplink noise, and managing system time delays

Corsico RF Communications has the experience and knowledge to apply the correct products and DAS configurations for all DAS deployments. We determine the right bands and technologies as a matter of course, at each project’s inception, to save our customers any expensive retrofits that may be overlooked. We have no superiors in the profession when engineering for all of the above critical system paramters.
